MTB - Corno do Bico

This region is essentially mountainous, with rounded outlines, and the 883 m high Corno de Bico is the highest elevation in the northern region. At the top of these slopes, it is possible to see ''chaos of blocks'', which are clusters of granite blocks, the dominant rock of the region, giving a chaotic look to the landscape.

During the activity, participants will be able to enjoy the excellent trails decorated with landscapes of lush oaks, chestnut woods and cork oaks. The presence of the Garrano horse through these stops is quite strong, which imprints to this area an additional unique beauty. Native to Minho and Trás-os-Montes, in Portugal, this species has been used for many centuries as a working and carrying animal. Due to its size, smaller than a common horse, it is considered a pony and because almost all of them are descended from garranos that were already in the service of man and were released by him, it is also considered a feral horse. It is a protected breed because of the risk of extinction to which it was subjected until recently.

Other highlights of this event are the passages through Alto de Cavalos and the Miradouro do Corno do Bico, a natural viewpoint at a height of 883 m, where you can see an extraordinary landscape over the territory and the main surrounding mountains.

Activity: MTB

Approximate distance: 40 km

Altimetry: The activity has about 1000 meters of positive unevenness. Since the route is circular, the positive altimetry is equal to the negative. The lowest elevation is at the level of the village of Grijó (580meters) and the highest at 890 meters in the vicinity of the lookout post of Corno do Bico.

Expected duration of the activity: 4 hours

Difficulty level: Due to its length, unevenness and technical level of the route, we catalogue this activity as being of medium, advised to mountain biking lovers who already have experience in making routes between 30 km - 50 km and with a similar unevenness to the one presented.
