Peaks of the Gerês

In this road cycling experience, we will travel some of the most emblematic roads of the first protected area in Portugal and today the only natural park in the country, the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Come and join us in this adventure!

On roads used 2000 years ago by Roman soldiers and Celtic people, we cross breathtaking landscapes. On this route the feeling of freedom is unique, the result of nature and the orientation of the relief, the variations in altitude and where the Atlantic, Mediterranean and continental influences translate into the variety and richness of the vegetation cover, namely bushes, oaks and birch or birch pine forests. The traditional architecture of terraces, barns, the freshness of the rivers Lima, Cávado and Gerês, animate a picture in which the spirit of discovery is always present.

Description of the Activity

Activity: Road Cycling

Approximate distance: 97 km

Altimetry: The activity has about 1600 meters of positive unevenness. Since the route is circular, the positive altimetry is equal to the negative. 

Expected duration of the activity: 4 to 5 hours

Difficulty level: Due to its extension, unevenness and technical level of the route, we classify this activity as being of medium/high level, advised to road cyclists who already have some experience/physical condition to cover distances between 50km and 100km, and with unevenness similar to the one presented.
